RUDA and Punjab EPA Collaborate to Improve Air Quality in Ravi City
Lahore, November 2025 — The Ravi Urban Development Authority (RUDA) and the Punjab Environment Protection Agency (EPA) have taken a major step toward improving Lahore’s environmental health by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for surveillance within the Mehmood Booti at Ravi City jurisdiction.
The agreement was formally signed by CEO RUDA, Mr. Imran Amin, and Director General EPA Punjab, Mr. Imran Hamid Sheikh, during a ceremony attended by senior officials from both organizations. Among those present were Executive Director Engineering RUDA, Mr. Abdul Waheed Khan, and Director PR & Climate Change, Mr. Abid Latif, along with representatives from RUDA and EPA Punjab.
The collaboration comes at a critical time when Lahore’s Air Quality Index (AQI) has exceeded 800 (AQI), making it one of the most polluted cities in the world. In response to the worsening air quality, RUDA has been actively taking measures to address environmental violations across the Ravi City. The authority has already sealed several factories found releasing excessive carbon and hazardous gases, in violation of RUDA’s environmental Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
To accelerate the pace of these efforts and ensure effective implementation of environmental policies, RUDA has joined hands with the Punjab Environment Protection Agency (EPA), a well-established provincial department equipped with the expertise and resources needed to monitor and enforce environmental compliance more effectively.
Speaking at the MoU signing, officials highlighted the importance of inter-agency cooperation in addressing the root causes of pollution and promoting sustainable urban practices. The partnership aims to strengthen environmental surveillance, enhance compliance mechanisms, and contribute to a cleaner and greener Lahore.
In addition to the MoU signing, RUDA and EPA Punjab organized a public awareness walk to promote the use of clean fuels, installation of emission control systems, and the adoption of environmentally responsible practices. The initiative encouraged citizens and industries alike to contribute to reducing air pollution and creating a healthier living environment.
Through this collaboration, RUDA reaffirmed its vision of developing an eco-friendly and sustainable urban landscape along the Ravi River. With continued enforcement and awareness campaigns, RUDA and EPA Punjab are working hand in hand to achieve a common goal, a smog-free and livable Punjab.
