RUDA Transforming Mehmood Booti Dumpsite into a Green Solar Park

Lahore- The Mehmood Booti dumpsite in Lahore, which used to be a huge pile of garbage and a serious problem for nearby community. The Ravi Urban Development Authority (RUDA) has taken on the task of cleaning up this dump site, which had been collecting garbage since 1997. For years, this place was known for its horrible smell and all the health issues it caused. But now, RUDA is working hard to turn it into a beautiful, green park.

RUDA’s plan to turn this site is divided into three big steps. First, they’ll cap the waste with soil and a special layer to stop it from polluting the air and ground anymore. They’ll also do borehole to capture the methane gas produced by the rotting garbage. Instead of letting this harmful gas go into the air, they’ll be using it to create energy, which is good for the environment.

In the next step, RUDA will build a solar power plant right on top of the site. This solar farm will produce clean energy for local homes and businesses, helping to make the area even more eco-friendly.

Finally, they’ll turn the place into a green park for everyone to enjoy. They’ll plant trees, make walking tracks, and specific spaces for families to relax. Soon, this old dumpsite will be a green and safe space where people can walk, play, and spend happy time together.

The whole project costs about PKR 3.5 billion and is a team effort of RUDA, Nespak Engineering, the Lahore Waste Management Company, and other Punjab government departments. RUDA’s work at Mehmood Booti shows that even the most polluted places can become something beautiful and useful for the community. This project isn’t just about getting rid of trash; it’s about making Lahore a cleaner, greener city for everyone.
